Chicago lawyer Carol K. Hannigan has been elected to the 19-member board of A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center. She previously served as a volunteer at the shelter and participated in its comprehensive treatment programs for victims of domestic violence. The Crisis Center serves Lake, McHenry and northern Cook counties. Hannigan, who has represented domestic-violence victims in the courtroom, said, ”I`m familiar with the cycles of violence, how to interpret those cycles and ultimately how to help the children not repeat the destructive behavior in their own lives.”
