As the project officer for a comprehensive Federal Highway Administration research project looking into commercial vehicle driver fatigue, I am quoted as saying that up to 70 percent of accidents have something to do with driver fatigue.
In point of fact, roughly 70 percent of accidents have something to do with driver error. The percentage of accidents in which loss of alertness or fatigue is a factor is between 30 and 40 percent, which we hope our study will reduce even further.
