I am a retired Chicago police officer on pension since March 1988-retired as a patrolman, so the income is not really great.

My property tax on a small junk house increased a dozen times, twice in the past year and is going up again. It`s extortion!

My Medicare deductible went up to $75 from $50. Premiums taken from my pension check for hospitalization insurance went up to $160 from $55.

My biggest pain is property tax. It seems that every time the senseless politicians want more money, they pick on small homeowners.

I am totally in favor of county sales tax or state sales tax, or any type of sales tax increase, because that way everyone pitches in a little. It`s a small amount, too.

I commend Cook County Board President Richard Phelan for making such a courageous move. Since it`s a known fact that money is needed, this is the best, wisest and only alternative.
