With all the doom and gloom we read about each day, you`d think that something like dropping the comic strip ”Annie” from the Tribune would seem somewhat trivial compared to the big picture of things. Be that as it may, I find myself questioning why such a fine piece of writing and artwork would be dropped.
Annie has been a consistently good story. In fact, it has become even better since it was taken over by the talented Leonard Starr. Each story contains excellent characters, thoughtful story lines and timely topics. Every episode is a finely crafted and thoughtful work of art, defying the reader to guess what will happen next. Unlike the more soap opera-like strips which seem to be on the same frame for months at a time, Annie moves along to quick and satisfying finishes.
Please don`t orphan those of us who read and appreciate Annie. Continue to provide us with a heroine who seems to reflect what is missing in our daily lives. That is, a conscience and feeling of social responsibility for the welfare of others.
