I was deeply anguished by Tom Hundley`s frivolous article concerning pizza in B`nei B`rak. For what purpose did the Tribune find it necessary to splash the opinions of a minority sect on the front page of the Sunday paper as if they represented those of all Orthodox Jews?

Mainstream Orthodox Judaism stresses that an individual must never isolate himself from his environment. One must cultivate one`s own character to act nobly at all times, in all places and with all people. The mention of the attitude towards ”the goyim” just sickened and saddened me.

Mr. Hundley could have re-ported on the massive distribu-tion of food in Chicago that day to our city`s poor and destitute in preparation for the Passover holiday. The Maot Chitim Com-mittee organizes annual holiday distributions, all with volunteer help of Chicago Jews: Orthodox, Conservative and Reform. This is mainstream Judaism.

Responsible journalism in 1992 America must realize its impact on the public before printing 1932 ”hooked-nose Jew” type material.
