I appreciate Ald. Burton Natarus` acknowledg-ment that there are more serious problems in the city than newsstands (Voice, March 18. The question is, what are you ”sensitive individuals” doing about these problems? All we see are more taxes and laws.

Take city stickers, for exam-ple. Mr. Natarus was a propo-nent of recent legislation raising the fees and fines, as well as al-lowing parked vehicles to be tick-eted for not having a city sticker.

Stoplights stay broken for days at a time, and there are potholes that would swallow a small child. The city is full of vehicles with no license plates, no headlights, no tail-lights and spew smoke into the air.

There are abandoned vehicles everywhere. The city won`t tow them because they are too busy towing booted cars. As a result, there are fewer places to park, so the city has more opportunities to fine you. But if you don`t register your car at all, they will leave you alone.

Chicagoans pay enough in gasoline taxes and other fees. You ”officials” claim not to be ”heartless,” but you keep finding ways to take more and give less.
