The two blue stripes on the Chicago flag represent the two branches of the Chicago river. The four red stars are for four events-two disastrous, two glorious-that shaped Chicago`s history and shaped the image that the world held of the city: the Fort Dearborn Massacre, the Chicago Fire and the international expos of 1893 and 1933.
In lieu of what is now being called ”The Great Flood,” anybody familiar with the symbolism of the Chicago flag must be wondering if a fifth star shouldn`t be added to it.
