I want to compliment the Tribune on the fine editorial on April 25
”Edison and utility rate wars.” I am retired, having worked 52 years at Edison. I personally handled the City of Chicago account for 11 years, and retired as Division Superintendent of the Central Division. I can vouch for the dangerous work performed by Edison personnel, the expert engineering and the coordination of many departments enabling the company to switch and maintain the largest concentration of underground power in the world.
You were right in stating that in Illinois regulation seems to have been replaced by litigation and delays by public interest groups, and their agendas are aimed at self-promotion. Receiving a compliment from Susan Stewart, executive director of the Citizens Utility Board, or Howard Lerner, a consumer lawyer for Business and Professional People for the Public Interest is unimportant.
More important is the thanks and respect received from building owners, managers and engineers who worked with Edison to switch and restore power, and from the mayor and contractors who praised Edison`s cooperation and expertise.
