State Rep. E.J. ”Zeke” Giorgi (D-Rockford) says he`ll continue his efforts to expand the licensure of midwives in Illinois, despite what he considers a recent legislative setback. A House rules committee voted 8-7 earlier this month to kill a midwifery bill he sponsored that would have allowed its practice by health care workers with specialized training, a relaxation of current law-which requires midwives to have registered nursing degrees.
