– Larkin 6, Elgin 5-Chad Schroeder, who picked up the save in relief, drilled a three-run sixth-inning home run to lift No. 6 Larkin (22-5, 20-4) in the Upstate Eight closer.
– Sandburg 12, Shepard 0-Todd Mensik (two-hitter, 15 strikeouts, two walks), Jim Morsovillo (3 for 5, home run) and Dave Pavlovic (three-run homer) helped No. 8 Sandburg (23-6, 10-2) clinch the SICA North title outright.
– Joliet West 14, Romeoville 1-Derek Kinder (8-2) hurled a five-inning three- hitter for Joliet West (18-11, 8-4 in the SICA West).
– Bogan 15, Kelly 4-Jan Murzyn was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and Bill Lindemulder was 4 for 5 with two RBIs for Bogan (13-10, 10-5 in the Public West).
– Taft 15, Young 1-Mark Surawski (two hits, three RBIs) and Bill Weaver (two hits, two RBIs) led Taft (24-3), the Public North champion.
– Homewood-Flossmoor 18, Rich East 2-Brett Lindberg (three-hitter), Jay Ahrendt (3 for 3, two homers, five RBIs), Steve Dennis (3 for 3, two RBIs) and Angel Santiago (3 for 3, two RBIs) paced Homewood-Flossmoor (21-7).
– St. Joseph 14, Riverside-Brookfield 2-John Musichio had three doubles and seven RBIs for St. Joseph.
– Reavis 7, Stagg 5-Chuck Foltz (three RBIs) and Jeff Smith had three hits apiece for Reavis (7-12, 4-8 in the SICA North).
– Bloom Trail 12, Eisenhower 5-Winning pitcher Gordon Sharkey had a double, home run and four RBIs and Mike Dempsey was 3 for 4 for Bloom Trail (8-18, 4-8 in the SICA East).
– Fenton 8, Lake Forest 5-Fenton (10-21) prevailed behind Matt Kaiser (two home runs, three RBIs) and Karl Greinig (3 for 4).
SOFTBALL
– Oak Park 3, Providence 2-Laura Kolbusz (20-0) went the distance, and Lauren Sherman drove in Cassie Blumhagen with the winning run for No. 2 Oak Park
(27-2) in non-conference action.
– Sandburg 11, Shepard 0-Jenny Crabb (4-2, one-hitter, eight strikeouts) and Gail Mullarkey (grand slam, four RBIs) led the way as No. 3 Sandburg (27-3, 11-1) clinched its seventh straight SICA North title.
– Bloom Trail 12, Eisenhower 0-No. 7 Bloom Trail (23-4, 10-2), runner-up to No. 5 Thornwood in the SICA East, breezed behind Kathy Grayeda (20-2, two-hitter, 14 strikeouts) and Toni Halbe (two hits, two RBIs).
– New Trier 8-3, Immaculate Heart of Mary 4-2-Courtney Cranfill had a two-run homer in Game 1 and Melissa Siegel`s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh won Game 2 as New Trier (23-5) swept the non-conference double-header. – Richards 13, Oak Lawn 2-Lisa Paplauski allowed four hits and Ann Suitanek
(two-run homer), Joanne Weitzel and Carrie Ferst had two hits apiece as Richards (19-10, 10-2 in the SICA North) won the Oak Lawn Village Classic.
– Andrew 13, Joliet Central 1-Winning pitcher Stacy Zarembski (four-hitter, 2 for 4, three RBIs) and Kim Miller (2 for 3, three RBIs) propelled Andrew
(24-6, 10-4 in the SICA West).
– Reavis 10, Stagg 0-Sandi Kelly (three-run triple) and Joelyn Pullano
(double, triple) backed Tracy Dahlin`s two-hitter for Reavis (16-9, 7-5) in the SICA North.
SOCCER
– GCAC tournament-Julie Martin and Margarita Ruiz had three goals apiece as Regina Dominican (14-4-3) blanked Mother Guerin 7-0 for third place.
– Waubonsie Valley 4, Hoffman Estates 1-Debbie Keller bagged her 23rd and 24th goals of the season and Amy Roberts and Becky Voelker added a goal each for No. 1 Waubonsie Valley (15-1-3).
– Libertyville 2, New Trier 0-Tiffany Boston scored one goal and assisted on a goal by Autumn Apperson for Libertyville (12-4-2).
GIRLS GYMNASTICS
– National high school meet-Team Illinois scored 107.25 points to beat runner-up Virginia (106.85) and third-place Texas (106.15) in the meet at the University of Maryland to win its first national championship. Top Illinois finishers were Downers Grove South`s Stephanie Grygiel (9.35, second in vaulting), Maine East`s Janise Szukala (9.0, third in vaulting), Lake Park`s Yvette Vallejera (9.15, tie for fifth in high bars), Hersey`s Kathy Kautz (tie for fith in high bars and tie for eighth in floor exercise). Glenbard West`s Amy Boras (tie for eighth in floor exercise) and Resurrection`s Nicki Tader rounded out the Illinois team.
