– Warren Class AA regional-North Chicago (1-18) beat Grayslake 6-4 to end three years of losing frustration (55 games in a row at one point) behind seniors Kenya Mason (four-hitter) and Tina Phillips (three stolen bases, two runs scored).
– Public League playoffs-Mather (20-4) pounded Whitney Young 12-2 in five behind Jennifer Silva (7-1, four-hitter) and Jennifer Pasol (two-run home run). . . . Jennifer Merriam was 3 for 4 with four RBIs as unbeaten Taft beat Steinmetz 22-1 for its 18th straight victory. . . . Pitcher Teresa Young struck out 14 and was 5 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs as Amundsen (10-7) dropped Prosser 17-5.
– Beecher Class A regional-Westmont (24-2) ousted Lemont (18-11) 2-1 as Patti Campbell hurled a three-hitter and fanned nine, and Kristy Walter singled and scored on an error in the third inning and belted a game-winning sixth-inning solo homer.
– Bishop McNamara Class A regional-Momence (17-10) nudged Bishop McNamara 4-2 with Sara Gray driving in two runs with two hits.
– Minonk-Dana-Rutland Class A regional-Seneca (23-3) tripped Dwight 5-1 as Cynthia Rowe (23-3) scattered six hits and Angela Rowe and Kelly Klicker (both 3 for 4).
– Newark Class A regional-Jenni Cornwell was 4 for 5 with a two-run homer and six RBIs as Sandwich beat Ottawa Marquette 15-8 for the school`s first regional title.
– Hersey 10, Deerfield 0-Carrie Hixson was 3 for 3 with an RBI and Karen Stewart had two hits, including a two-run homer, for Hersey (21-3).

– Niles North regional-Loyola (25-10) outlasted New Trier 15-7, 10-15, 17-15 behind Jack Murphy (57 assists), Matt Schabes (21 kills) and Pat Wright (12 kills). Peter Min had 25 kills and Pat Kennedy 21 for New Trier.
– Niles West regional-George Heckenbach (15 kills) and Brian Rosemark (10 kills) guided Glenbrook South (17-8-1) over Evanston 12-15, 15-13, 15-12.
– Stevenson regional-Glenbrook North (13-8) ousted Highland Park 15-4, 15-8 behind Matt Carpenter (14 kills, seven solo blocks) and Peter Yang (28 setting assists). . . . Wheeling (9-22-1) outclassed Deerfield 15-5, 15-12 behind Mike Wikstrom (seven kills), Bill Tziforos (six kills, three blocks) and Aman Halvadia (five kills, two aces).
