Elizabeth Estill, 44, takes over in August as the first woman appointed a regional forester in the U.S. Forest Service`s 87-year history. Based in Denver, she will oversee territory in Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota, including two million acres of grasslands, along with ski resorts and cattle-grazing lands. Forests, says Estill, ”need to be managed to provide all those kinds of activities on the same piece of territory.”
