Roberta Flack had a great idea for her new album-a record filled with her performances of Nat King Cole songs.

She still thought it was a terrific idea as she watched her friend, Nat`s daughter Natalie Cole, scoop up Grammys this year for ”Unforgettable,” her tribute album to her father.

”Fate has a way of working its way into your life,” said Flack, 53, who did include her version of the song ”Unforgettable” on her latest album,

”Set the Night to Music.”

”After we learned Natalie was doing a tribute to her dad, which was right, just, fair and wonderful, we changed course and decided to do some songs I love.

”I`m basically in love with music rather than trying to be one up on somebody. I didn`t have a problem with what she was doing, and I don`t think she had a problem with me.”

Flack did come up on the plus side with the album`s title track, a duet with pop-reggae singer Maxi Priest that was her biggest hit since the early

`80s.

She has more to say about him than any of her duet partners other than the late Donny Hathaway.

”He`s so fine, so sexy, so cute,” Flack said about Priest.
