Health Secretary Virginia Bottomley is turning aside suggestions that Great Britain should make it illegal for people with the AIDS virus to engage in unprotected sex. The calls follow a case in Birmingham in which a woman recently accused her male lover of failing to warn her that he was infected. Bottomley says she fears such laws could drive people with the virus underground and inhibit them from seeking testing or treatment.
