A science teacher in Stockport, England, believes she has found the cause of what she considers spontaneous human combustion. Jenny Randles, author of a new book chronicling case histories, says ”an explosive chemical reaction seems to take place inside the body, just like a compost heap or a bale of hay can burst into flames in nature.” What might cause the ”ignition?” Randles says elderly or overweight people are the most likely victims and the freak eruptions seem to be linked to ingesting a combination of eggs and alcohol-based medicines such as liquid laxatives.
