How about returning to the original Pledge of Allegiance as composed and published in that hotbed of radicalism, The Youth`s Companion, in 1892?

It omitted both ”of the United States of America” and ”under God.”

The former was added in 1923 and the latter in 1954.

If I say that, in my option, the shorter pledge has more grace and better rhythm, will I be regarded as unpatriotic and sacrilegious? Or just hopelessly old-fashioned?
