Pietro Glannola, 92, a former store owner in the Taylor Street neighborhood, died Sunday in the Regency Nursing Home. Mr. Glannola, a native of Sicily and resident of Jefferson Park, served in the Italian army in World War I. He fought in 1918 in the battle of Vittorio Veneto, one of several battles that led to the defeat of the Austrian army. As a result of his actions in the fray, he won Italy`s highest honor for bravery. He immigrated to the United States in 1946 and operated Pete`s Grocery Store, 1162 W. Polk St., from 1946 to 1958. Survivors include his wife, Filippa; two daughters, Antionette Larsen and Tina; two sons, Sam and Saro; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A service was held Wednesday in Chicago.
