In the July 19 Transportation section the glaring colored picture of four young children riding in the back of a pick-up truck left me awestruck. The caption below states, ”There`s plenty of room for kids in the back of a pick- up and the adults in the cab get a bit of quiet, too.”
As the story continues on page five, here again is shown a pick-up with children riding in the open back of the truck.
What about safety? What about the laws prohibiting riding in the open back of all trucks?
If open-air riding was justified as being safe, why did the laws forbid the use of the old rumble seat in automobiles?
I don`t think that any parent who loved their children would expose them to such a danger.
