Once again the American public has been let down! Responding to Ross Perot`s ”call to arms” to help get America back ”on track,” thousands of Americans put conventional activities aside to join forces and work for the

”committed” unannounced candidate for president.

We became members of the team, a citizen`s army whose mission it was to take back our country. Then on July 16 our general, Ross Perot, deserted his troops and left them abandoned in the field.

How could it be that a man so obsessed with freeing captured Vietnam servicemen and with rescuing company associates held hostage in Iran could have so little concern with supporting the forces that his activities encouraged in this country?

By his actions Mr. Perot has created a spot for himself in history. Unfortunately, he will be remembered in time not as a leader, but more appropriately as a man who betrayed those that had come to count on him.

When Mr. Perot has once again retired to the privacy and comfort his wealth can provide, I suggest that he write a sequel to his book ”The Eagle Has Landed.” But in this case, the appropriate title should be ”The Chicken Hawk has Flown.”
