Wind and erratic temps slowing lakefront action. Perch school reported at Lincoln Park Lagoon, while all other harbors slow. Lakers taken in 150 feet of water, bouncing spoons off bottom. All other Illinois trolling action spotty. Waukegan boaters taking lakers, kings, some coho in 105-140 feet, on black/
orange, black/green or silver spoons, or pearl flies; perch taken from on boats in 15-25 feet of water, on crabmeat and minnows.
MISSISSIPPI RIVER (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Walleyes starting up again at wing dams on 3-way rigs with floater jigs and leeches, or floating Rapalas. Channel catfish plentiful throughout river- try areas above Sabula, backwaters and submerged stumps. Lake Onalaska area yielding crappies in Black River channel on green and yellow tube jigs tipped with crappie minnows, northern in same area on suckers; few bass taken on Onalaska using top-water lures. Flathead catfish still hitting in Rock River, best from Rock Falls to Oregon; channel cats taken at Lowell Park, Castle Rock and roadside launching ramp below Como, on cheese and chicken livers.
KANKAKEE RIVER (STAR)(STAR)
River going down and clearing. Smallmouth starting up again; catfish hitting throughout.
ILLINOIS RIVER (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Starved Rock hot for catfish, few white bass. Ottawa catfish best in deep water, on nightcrawlers, liver and shrimp; largempouth fair in backwaters on blue and purple plastic worms, while smallmouth are fair working shorelines with jig and minnow and small spinnerbaits. Fox River yielding smallmouth, wading with crankbaits; catfish taken in deep holes, using nightcrawlers, liver and shrimp. LaSalle Lake producing hybrid stripers trolling along first dike with crankbaits; catfish caught deep with nightcrawlers, liver, shrimp;
bluegills best on cool-water side in 12 feet of water, on redworms or waxworms.
FOX RIVER (STAR)(STAR)
McHenry reporting few stripers and bass. Geneva yielding catfish and smallmouth.
SHABBONA LAKE (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Walleyes best in deep trees after dark. Good muskie catches on leeches, nightcrawlers or minnows, in 16-18 feet of water during day, 10-12 feet at night. Catfish active at front face of dam, at roadbed and shallows along shoreline. Bass best in weedbeds.
MICHIANA (STAR)(STAR)
Indiana lakefront action spotty. St. Joseph River still reporting good steelhead catches at Berrien Springs Dam; fair-to-good reports in lake for coho, kings, steelhead and lakers, in 120-200 feet of water, 30-70 feet down, using spoons; perch still hitting minnows in 35-55 feet of water.
LAKE WINNEBAGO, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Perch still biting on helgrammites and nightcrawlers. White bass improving on river on spinners. Good walleyes catches on Rapalas or leeches. Crappies biting by slough bridge.
LAKE GENEVA, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Decent catches of 5-6-pound northern pike early morning. Good reports of bass at weedbeds near deep water. Best action in 30-40 feet of water.
