Vice President Quayle is getting a bum rap from hyperactive conservatives attempting to have him dropped from the Republican ticket. At least the vice president is saying the right words about family values, is improving in spelling and has the courage to take on the lawyers. The problem is not Dan Quayle; the problem is George Bush!
If George Bush had the best interests of the Republican Party and the nation at heart, he`d withdraw from the race and concentrate on being president for the remainder of his term. A Republican ticket of Jack Kemp and Warren Rudman would be very hard to beat. Furthermore, Jim Baker could continue being Secretary of State and carry on what he does best.
It is doubtful George will do the manly thing. It is more likely he will drum up a war to finish what he should have done when he was advised that Saddam was gassing the Kurds long before he invaded Kuwait.
