Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After reading your article on Tipper Gore and heavy metal music, ”Fear and loathing” (July 22), I am more worried than ever about the future of our country. I thought the upcoming election was for the office of president. From what I could tell, the metalheads are voting for the wife of the next vice president.

Voting for or against a candidate because of the effect their running mate`s wife might have on the labeling of raunchy music is absolutely ludicrous. I am all for freedom of expression and feel the 1st Amendment is our most cherished possession. However, to think someone might choose not to vote or, worse yet, vote for George Bush because ”he hasn`t (harmed) rock so far” makes me sick.

I hope these headbangers wake up and realize what`s important for the future of our children and this country.

Even with parental-guidance labeling, rock and roll will survive. Without presidential guidance, our country can`t.
