Your editorial reference to James Baker as one vice presidential possibility bumps up against the 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Assuming Baker and President Bush both are from Texas, the members of the Electoral College must vote for President and Vice President ”one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves. . . .”

This precludes a ticket in which both members come from the same state. Of course, a change at the top would also solve the problem.
