Police are investigating the attack by suspected street gang members on a 13-year-old boy and his father at a South Side grocery store.
Police reports said the boy, his parents and a teenage sister were shopping about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in Colon`s Grocery Store, 102 S. Park Ave., when they were confronted by three gang members.
The boy was hit in the face by one youth, who accused the boy of being a gang member. When the family tried to leave the store, they were confronted by eight to 10 more gang members, police said. The suspected gang members started hitting the boy and struck his father in the face and ribs when he intervened.
Sgt. Fernando Shipley said Thursday no arrests have been made, but the investigation continues. Police have not determined whether the victim had engaged in gang activity, he said.
