St. Charles officials chalked up another retail development victory this week after giving final approval to a plan to build a Wal-Mart store on the city`s far east side.
The City Council approved the development`s final plat and accepted the necessary letters of credit guaranteeing public improvements on the property. The project is planned for 17 acres on the northeast corner of Smith Road and North Avenue, just east of Charlestowne Mall.
City planner Dan Olson said construction will begin as soon the developers apply for building permits.
