Surveys have been sent to 10,000 women-owned firms in Illinois to get comprehensive profiles of the businesses and develop a baseline standard on such issues as barriers to getting capital, numbers of jobs created and export activity. The survey is being done by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) in partnership with DePaul University`s Small Business Institute. Approximately 220,000 Illinois businesses are owned by women, and three of four business start-ups are women-owned, according to Jan Grayson, DCCA director.
