Zimbabwean sugar cane farmer Therese Varth has become foster mother to more than 40 wild hippos. The animals were in danger of being killed off by the drought before finding their way to her farm. Her youngest charge is a 7- week-old female hippo named Hippy who is fed milk and breakfast cereal and is allowed to sleep in the house. Varth says she has enough water to last until December, and neighboring farmers are helping with the cost of accommodating the healthy appetites of her visitors.
