The Tribune`s July 23 guest column, ”Art, sexuality and shame,” was too one-sided. There is a distressing tendency to equate withdrawal of financial support with censorship.
Nobody is trying to keep these ”artists” from doing their stuff. Let them hire halls and charge admission, if they can get anyone to pay for it. I suspect they know they can`t, which is why denial of taxpayer support, via National Endowment for Arts, is painful. They might even have to work. Spare the thought.
