An adopt-a-highway bill has been approved by the state legislature authorizing volunteer groups in Lake County and elsewhere to adopt and clean up litter along roadside right of ways.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Richard Klemm (R-Crystal Lake), is awaiting the governor`s signature.
The adopted portions of highways must be within the jurisdiction of municipalities, counties or townships and will be administered by local officials, Klemm said.
