Carol Stream Fire Protection District officials say they likely will have to wait until next spring`s election to get the necessary referendum proposal passed to enable it to annex 98 parcels of land and square off its boundaries. District Fire Chief Mark Bodane said the West Chicago Fire Protection District, in which the properties are now located, is agreeable to the change. ”There is no doubt that the Carol Stream Fire Protection District can deliver faster service because our station is closer to the buildings,”

Bodane said.

Because the properties are owner-occupied, 1 percent of registered voters must petition to have the question placed on the ballot, Bodane said. This must be done 60 days before an election, he said. But details of a financial agreement with West Chicago are not expected to be completed by the end of August, so there would not be enough time to get the proposal on the November ballot.

The area is located north of North Avenue and east of Fair Oaks Road in unincorporated West Chicago.
