I propose a national, non-binding referendum to find out how the public really feels about such issues as abortion, gun control, the national anthem and so forth.
We have to rely too often on polls, demonstrations and special interest groups for so-called public opinion.
What better opportunity than a presidential election year to not only get out the vote, but give the voters a chance to voice their opinion on these issues? Or would that scare our politicians half to death?
