I am getting sick and tired of the lambasting of the ”L” word: Liberal. It is done by the media, it is done by Republicans, and it is even done by some faltering Democrats.
What is so repulsive and frightening about being a liberal? Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a liberal. Because of his efforts we have Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Rural Electrification Administration and many other forms of social legislation. He had to fight tooth and toenail against Republicans who called him ”communist.” But not one Republican would dare to try to remove any of his social legislation from the law of the land. Harry Truman instituted the Marshall Plan-one of the greatest international aid plans in the history of the world.
Lyndon Johnson gave us the great civil-rights legislation, again having to take on the Republican opposition.
All Democrats. All liberal. Let`s be proud of a great word, and quit hiding it under a bushel.
