The latest news from Bosnia-Herzegovina speaks volumes about President Bush`s ”new world order.” Last year the Serbs marched into Croatia under the banner of revenge for Croatian atrocities inflicted upon the Serbs during the Nazi occupation of Yugoslavia. The latest deportation of Muslims and Croats by Serbian irregulars, complete with cattle cars, concentration camps and

”ethnic cleansing,” shows they have learned their lessons well.

In Washington, the Bush administration expresses ”concern.” Meanwhile, fighter jets and Marines stand ready to bomb Baghdad at the slightest provocation by the ”defeated” Saddam Hussein.

The Rehnquist court now regularly thumbs its nose at international law, condoning the kidnapping of foreign nationals and the Serb-like mass deportations of Haitians without due process of law. The one thing you can say about President Bush`s new world order is that it has firmly fixed the worth of a human life below the going rate for a barrel of oil. Never again? Not very likely.
