Perch slowed since heat wave. Salmon hitting in 80 feet of water, on purple and black spoons. Waukegan producing fair perch catches on soft-shell crabs and minnows from shore, spotty from boats in 20 feet of water, south of Waukegan, using same bait. Waukegan trollers getting salmon in 170-180 feet of water, at depths of 130 and 65-70 feet.

MISSISSIPPI RIVER (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Water low and clean. Walleyes hitting at Sabula on jigs and minnows, at Bellevue on leeches and 3-way rigs. Bluegills and crappies active at Green Island and at Pool 13. Channel catfish still plentiful on dip cheese, minnows and leeches. Stripers caught below Lock 13 dam on small spinnerbaits, leadhead and twister tail combination.

ROCK RIVER (STAR)(STAR)

Few walleye taken below Oregon Dam on nightcrawlers and twisters bounced off bottom. Walleye fair below Dixon Dam. Catfishing good on cheese, shrimp and chicken liver. Andalusia`s Lake George best for largemouth on

spinnerbaits. Good catfish catches at Steel Dam and between islands at Milan, on worms, liver and leeches. Few crappies taken out of Milan canal on minnows. Steel Dam still fair for stripers on minnows.

CHAIN O`LAKES (STAR)(STAR)

Fair bass catches on chain and Loon Lake. Muskies hitting top-water lures evenings on Channel, Catherine and Marie lakes. Stripers active all over, especially Bluff, Petite and Marie. Panfish best deep, off weedlines. Catfish taken in channels evenings. Bluegills found in weeds of Channel and Catherine. Occasional keeper muskie taken at Nippersink Creek, using nightcrawlers.

KANKAKEE RIVER (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

River receding and clearing. Smallmouth taken east of Momence and below Kankakee and Wilmington dams on minnows, spinners, twisters and crankbaits. Rock bass and catfish good throughout river. Crappies hitting at night east of Momence and at Des Plaines backwater areas. Northern pike fair on big minnows. Occasional walleye in holes at Wilmington. Braidwood Lake slow, few catfish reported. Heidecke Lake fair for catfish, walleyes and stripers. Mazonia Lake and strip mines best for bluegills, bass. Milliken Lake producing bluegills, largemouth bass.

ILLINOIS RIVER (STAR)(STAR)

White bass hitting near Marseilles, on jigs and minnows; few sauger and walleye at same area. Ottawa area yielding catfish on shrimp, stinkbait, nightcrawlers; few smallmouth and largemouth in backwater rockbars taking crankbaits, small spinnerbaits, jig and minnow. Starved Rock improving for catfish; white bass are spotty.

FOX RIVER (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Action for Geneva smallmouth steady on small crankbait, jigs and twisters; catfish taking stinkbaits at dam and throughout area; stripers best on minnows. At Yorkville, catfish and bass best catches, on leeches, stinkbaits and `crawlers. Aurora yielding catfish on chicken liver, cheese bait, nightcrawlers and golden roaches; few smallmouth taken wading at bridges, Indian Trail and below dams, on spinners, artificial crayfish, golden roaches and fatheads. Walleye slow since heat wave. Largemouth hitting nightcrawlers and surface lures at Jericho Lake.

SHABBONA LAKE (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Good muskie catches in wooded area and by dam, with recent catches of 33- and 41-inch fish reported, using spinnerbaits and nightcrawlers. Very few walleye taken. Bass best at night. Catfish slowed.

REND LAKE (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Action improving in heavy cover or shady spots. Largemouth good on plastic worms near stumps. Crappies improving in structure in 3-12 feet of water, using minnows. Bluegills good at stumps on waxworms. Channel catfish hitting nightcrawlers and cut bait mornings and evenings on the flats. Spinnerbaits best for white bass at north end of lake mornings and evenings.

INDIANA WATERS (STAR)(STAR)

Perch picking up in front of NIPSCO plant, with some 12-inch-plus fish reported, using minnows. Good catches of lakers, few coho 8-12 miles out from shore, using orange/green and glow-in-dark green spoons.

ST. JOSEPH, MICH. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Steelhead piling below Berrien Springs dam, with fish ladder temporarily closed.

MICHIGAN WATERS (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Chinook salmon, steelhead very good from Ludington north. Some salmon reaching 18 to 22 pounds.

SUBURBAN PARK LAKES (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Bass, panfish very active in better-managed park lakes. Bass taking spinnerbait, plastic worms, Power Baits. Panfish on nightcrawlers, leeches. Same conditions apply to farm ponds, quarries.

SPOONER, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Bass, musky action steady in Washburn County lakes. Walleye, bass in St. Croix River. Muskies of 54 and 47 inches reported from Iowa County`s Twin Valley lake.

MANITOWOC, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)

Perch on jigs and live bait fair to good. Salmon so-so.

DOOR COUNTY, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Big chinook hitting off Plum Island, Northport, Door Bluff. Smallmouth bass best at Sturgeon Bay quarry off Bayview Park.

LAKE WINNEBAGO, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)

Walleye biting along shorelines and mud flats. Perch spotty.

LAKE BUTTE DES MORTS, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Walleye at mouth of Fox River, Stoney Beach and Roe Point. Northern pike improving. White bass on Wolf River at Winneconne.

RACINE, KENOSHA, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Brown trout steady in Kenosha harbor. Lakers best off Racine.

WISCONSIN RIVER (STAR)(STAR)

Mainly catfish below Prairie du Sac dam. Some walleye, white bass on Lake Wisconsin.

HAYWARD, WIS. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)

Moose Lake yielding limits of walleye. Muskies strong on Chippewa Flowage, using surface lures. Round Lake good for smallmouth and muskies. Lake Couderay producing big northern pike, muskies and smallmouth.
