Gloria Flaherty, 54, died Aug. 3 in her Glen Ellyn home. Born and raised in Karny, N.J., Ms. Flaherty was a professor of German, serving at the University of Illinois-Chicago since 1984. She also held positions at Northwestern University and at Bryn Mawr College, where she was chairwoman of the department of German before coming to UIC. She is survived by her mother, Jean Flaherty. Services were held in New Jersey.
