European airlines said their passenger traffic was up almost 20 percent in the first half of the year, compared with a year ago, when traffic slumped due to the Gulf War. But the Association of European Airlines said traffic was only 5 percent higher than in 1990, before the hostilities. . . . Boeing Co. agreed to sell 34 of its 737-300 jets to Southwest Airlines Co. for $1.2 billion in the biggest 737 order since 1989. Southwest also has options for 53 jets.
