It appears that John McCarron is reacting to Commonwealth Edison`s financial problems exactly as they want him to (”Edison woes mean dark times for all,” July 26).
Edison`s stockholders and management have taken in large profits over the years and now feel threatened because consumers want a hold or drop in electric rates. If a company follows poor advice by its experts and overbuilds, then let it be held responsible for its highly paid experts`
recommendations.
Edison can save face by giving the excellent maintenance service it purports in its advertisements. An I-told-you-so attitude can backfire for Edison and relinquish not only profits but respectability and credibility that is still attached to the name, but dangling on a thread.
Dare to say it, McCarron: Commonwealth Edison and its stockholders are the only ones that should absorb the costly miscalculations created by poor management decisions.
After all, the stockholders elected these managers who are, and must remain, answerable, right or wrong, to them for their actions.
