The article ”Elderly women`s economic plight is worsening” (Aug. 10, Business) was informative, but women want to hear more than statistics. They want answers and suggestions as to what they can do in their 30s, 40s and 50s so they won`t fall into the poverty category in their 60s and beyond.
Also, the picture of the woman used as an example in the article shows a cat and very large dog. Pets are a luxury. A dog that size costs a lot to feed and keep in good health, especially in small quarters. The money spent on pets could be used to buy clothes and for travel, which the woman says she can`t afford. Surviving is a matter of choice, and to be realistic, a pet often costs too much to keep on a small income.
