Dorcas Helfant of Virginia Beach, Va., first woman president in the 85-year history of the Chicago-based National Association of Realtors, was in Chicago recently for a meeting of leaders of the 750,000-member organization. Helfant, who took office last November, says such ”feminine skills” as nurturing and consensus-building areresponsible for the fact that more than 50 percent of Realtors now are women, compared with fewer than than 10 percent 25 years ago. ”These people skills enable women to excel at selling,” she said. ”We see a diminishing pool (of women Realtors) in the `90s as business and industry start taking advantage of this same potential sales ability. But, of course, that`s good for women.”
