After spending billions of dollars building unnecessary nuclear power plants, it is a joy to hear that Commonwealth Edison is scrambling for ways to save money. As other utilities across the nation have cut costs through energy conservation programs and more efficient operations, Edison has until now maintained virtual carte blanche to steadily raise our rates to some of the highest in the country.
Edison`s streamlining of costs and middle management is a reflection of the business world in a recession, not an unsympathetic ICC. They need to learn the meaning of fiscal responsibility and better services for their customers. Until that day, Commonwealth Edison deserves no sympathy.
