Too bad Professor Jerry Coyne (Voice of the People, July 31) was unable to read page 3 (”Outcast gene . . .” by Ronald Kotulak) of the Tribune the day his rebuttal of the Carberry and Kmiec article appeared. This new research strengthens even more their argument against abortion on the basis of the genetic uniqueness of each individual. Even identical twins ”do not share exactly the same genetic makeup.” So you are correct in one respect, Professor Coyne: Professors Carberry and Kmiec definitely would not condone aborting one identical twin.

As far as student Jonathan Ashman, whose letter appeared the same day, is concerned-he is correct, there is a life-death continuum. Life begins with conception and ends with death. To stop the progression anywhere along that continuum is wrong. Seems simple enough to me.
