The recent clearance of Dr. Jack Kevorkian of murder charges raises some doubt in my mind regarding the appropriateness of utilizing a suicide machine to treat a victim of chronic and severe pain.
As a pain management specialist, I find this quite disturbing. Admittedly, I do not have all the details of her case regarding her pain and know only what I have read in newspaper reports.
The specialty of pain management has grown substantially in the last several years where we are now able to treat patients with severe and debilitating chronic pain through treatment modalities that were not available before.
