The City Council ended a monthlong dispute with the recreation board this week by hiring a new recreation director, after earlier rejecting the applicant because he was not from Highwood.
In July, the City Council rejected the recommendation of its recreation board, and aldermen decided to look through the applications themselves to see if an equally qualified candidate from Highwood was among them. The recreation board had unanimously recommended Dave Rosene, a high school teacher and coach from Wilmette.
Ald. Donald Schneider said the council decided this week to accept the recreation board`s choice because Rosene was a much stronger candidate.
”The concern was to have somebody from Highwood, but the overall concern was to have somebody who is qualified,” he said.
