At a public hearing before the village plan commission, about 10 homeowners this week protested a proposed development near Gurnee Mills shopping center. The residents are worried especially that more development in the area could increase neighborhood flooding. Flood problems increased after Gurnee Mills was built, the residents said. They also pointed out that a development would hamper traffic and crowd schools.
Western Development Corp. wants to build a combination residential and commercial complex on 79 acres at the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and Hunt Club Road, commissioners said. The project would include 23 acres for residential units at a density of 13 units per acre, and a commercial center on the remaining acreage.
The homeowners have asked the commission to consider requiring Western Development to install outside storm water sewer pipe between Hunt Club Road and Cemetery Road to handle rainwater.
