Rev. Carl J. McNerney, 71, pastor emeritus at St. Gabriel Church, 4500 S. Lowe Ave., died Friday in Mercy Medical Center. Born in Indianapolis, Father McNerney`s family moved to Chicago and joined St. Gabriel Church in 1927, where he attended grade school. He went to Quigley North High School and St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, where he was ordained in 1949. Father McNerney was a pastor at several Chicago and Chicago-area parishes before returning to St. Gabriel Church in 1975, where he retired in 1990. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Alice Ward, Margaret Stoner and Rita Jean Eaheart; and a brother, John J. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in McInerney Funeral Home, 7901 S. Komensky Ave. A liturgical service will be at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church.
