I would like to commend the City Council for passing important regulations governing bicycle messengers. However, the July 31 article by Andrew Gottesman should have included some important information.

First of all, cabbies and messengers are not ”natural enemies.” Both are trying to make a living, and if everyone follows traffic regulations, we can all make a sane and sensible living on our city streets.

Second, he failed to mention that taxis are already regulated. Every cab must have a number painted on the outside and posted on the inside, drivers must be licensed and display it in the cab, pass a city test, have a valid chauffeur`s license and carry insurance. The city also has a complaint reporting structure. At Yellow Cab, we encourage our passengers who have a complaint to contact us, also.

If all who use Chicago`s streets abide by city regulations, there should be fewer problems.
