Members of my family have fought in every U.S. war since the Civil War, and I in Vietnam. Dedication, patriotism and sacrifice are part of my heritage.
However, not for one day would I, nor would I want any of my sons to, fight to help any faction among (former) Yugoslavian ethnic groups. These groups, all of them, are to blame. They are all wrong, but they are all right, too. It is a civil war that should be settled within.
The Canadian general commanding the UN forces in the Balkans has estimated it would take 1 million troops to enforce any meaningful peace. He also stated that air power alone would not suffice. Listen to the
professionals, they know.
We learned a lesson in Vietnam that we did not repeat in Cambodia. Let`s avoid repeating it in the Balkans.
