Leonard Larsen`s thoughts on the age-old notion of ethnic cleansing (Aug. 12) suggest that America has a clean conscience on this one, because evils like the KKK have been removed to the idiot fringes of our society.
As Larsen defines ethnic cleansing by word and example, he omits what was the most massive and longest-running ethnic cleansing the world has ever seen. Under the guise of lofty sounding names such as manifest destiny and reservations, the North American continent was ethnically cleansed of Native Americans. Adding up the numbers from the era when the ”only good injun was a dead injun” makes Hitler took like a piker by comparison.
