When Republican businessman Joe Cannon, an anti-abortion-rights Mormon from Utah, hired Mary Kay Lazarus to work on his U.S. Senate campaign, he knew she supported abortion rights. But Right to Life of Utah demanded that Cannon fire her. He refused. Says Lazarus: ”People ask him, `How can you possibly support someone like her?”` But she says it`s proof of his moral fiber that he didn`t cave in to political pressure.
