Despite the continuing desire of his former band mates in Talking Heads-Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth-to reunite, David Byrne says the band is all but finished.
But first a two-CD retrospective of Heads songs will be released Oct. 13, ”Popular Favorites 1976-92: Sand in the Vaseline,” including some unreleased songs and demos.
”That kind of puts the band to rest for the time being, at least in my mind,” Byrne says.
The beginning of the end can probably be traced to the 1983 ”Stop Making Sense” concerts, one of rock`s landmark tours and later a definitive concert film.
”It did make it harder to tour after that,” Byrne says. ”I don`t know if that was because I felt we somehow had to top that. But there was a lot of backstage tension and I always had to consider whether I wanted to dive into that again.”
